Twiggy by Paola Lenti
Paola Lenti has always had the colour and the development of textiles at the core of their design process. Since establishment 25 years ago they have focussed on developing sustainable and ethical practices in their products, supply chains and for their staff. Now Paola Lenti has gone further and is utilising three new materials. After three years of research, Paola Lenti introduces Twiggy, a 100% recyclable thread, a single material yarn that is woven, transformed into rope or braided to be used across a number of their flagship products. Starting with using Twiggy for the Frame, Ami and Canvas seating ranges and the Zoe rug collection Paola Lenti aims to use as few materials for a product as possible, sometimes only a single material to make disassembly and recycling as seamless as it can be. The most sustainable product is the one that you can keep for a long time before recycling, to this end, Twiggy is waterproof, highly durable, easy to clean and resistant to UV rays.
Additionally, Paola Lenti is now using Aerelle Blue for all the padding for their upholstery. Developed by German fibre producer Advansa, Aerelle Blue uses Social Plastic, recycled plastic collected by coastal communities in emerging economies by Plastic Bank. Plastic Bank helps create a living wage for 21,000+ collectors while diverting plastic from beaches and oceans in areas with high poverty and plastic pollution. This material is then cleaned and innovatively turned into EU ecolabel certified fibres before being used to fill Paola Lenti’s cushions and seating.
