Sofas / Fixed / Torii Bold Sofa

Nendo studio has adapted the original iconic Torii design with Torii Bold. The two families dialogue harmoniously with each other in a clever interplay of full and empty volumes. Torii Bold is characterised by the contrast between the large, softly rounded volumes of the upholstery and the lightness of the small metal feet, embellished with a jewel-like button.

The sofa has a gently curved silhouette in both the small and large sizes, the slim backrest is punctuated by a vertical quilting effect and piping that outlines the perimeter of the upholstery: sartorial detail that emphasise the couture aspect of the craftsmanship.

nendo is the name of the 70-person Tokyo studio of industrial designer Oki Sato. Born in Toronto, Canada in 1977, today Sato is one of the world’s most prolific designers, working for brands as varied as Fritz Hansen, Stellar Works, Wonder Glass, Moroso, Flos and Minotti. “nendo” means “clay” in Japanese, and the studio prides itself on being as flexible as that venerable material.

Now helmed by the third generation of the Minotti family, Rodolfo Dordoni guarantees the modern-classic aspect of the portfolio while collaborations with designers including Frenchman Christophe Delcourt and Japan’s nendo bring in fresh perspective.
