Espy Penthouse

Location:
Melbourne
Type:
Apartment
Year:
2007
Architect:
Jolson Architects
Photographer:
Jean Luc Laloux

With an abundance of space and natural light, this penthouse apartment features a strong, simple use of limited materials and restrained colour.

The apartment layout was designed in collaboration with Italian architect Claudio Silvestrin.

The calming neutral pallet balances the expansive surfaces.

The interior soft furnishings, by Jolson, explore a subtle shift of tonal colour, texture and materials with blown glass, leather, linen, and hand-loomed rugs.

The sweeping curve of the floor plan emphasises the bay and city views.

The site of the iconic 'Espy', as it is affectionately known, was originally part of the historic Esplanade Hotel, acquired by Becton in May 2001.

Becton's 'Esplanade Apartments' are located at 562 St Kilda Road, Melbourne

Following several years of planning, Becton developed and built what is today recognised as one of the most prestigious residential addresses in Melbourne.

The stunning design by international designer, Claudio Silvestrin, features a quality of interior finish never before seen in Australia.

The design, its strategic location opposite St Kilda Beach, and the low probability of any similar building nearby receiving planning approval, set this project apart in Melbourne's competitive market.

This was the first of two residential projects with this client.
