Corrs is the first major Australian law firm to adopt a totally open plan layout for its partners, lawyers and support staff.
Bates Smart was engaged by Corrs Chambers Westgarth to design its new Sydney office as part of an integrated fitout in the Lord Rogers designed 8 Chifley Tower.
Bates Smart won the project through a design competition, determining an open collaborative solution best suited Corrs’ bold vision for the future.
The open layout encourages knowledge sharing and collaboration among and between teams, with a view to breaking down traditional silos, offering both physical and visual connectivity between the levels.
Critical to the success of the open solution is the high ratio of quiet rooms and focus rooms located immediately adjacent to the workspace. Highly tailored and technology enabled workdesks and meeting rooms, ensure ease of transition between workpoints, and enable staff to select the work environment to best suit their task.
Soft organic elements and warm natural materials counterbalance the strong materiality of the building, offering a timeless design solution and befitting Corrs international presence.
8 Chifley has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Office Design v2 certified rating by the Green Building Council of Australia, representing ‘World Leadership’ in environmental sustainability practices.
Bates Smart assisted Corrs through the change management process, including a 60% reduction in paper reliance, to support a more fluid, mobile work environment.
The building is designed with a distinctive side core floorplate and dramatic 3 level atrium voids creating ‘vertical villages’. Over 10 levels, the Corrs tenancy includes two ‘vertical villages’ and, on the upper level of the tenancy, an open terrace area with dramatic views.
