Back to Front House

Location:
Australia
Type:
House
Year:
2012
Architect:
Andrew Burges Architecture

The design of this new two-storey dwelling was to turn the house back to front. By reconfiguring the entry to the side of the block Andrew Burges Archtiects were able to push the house to the back of the site to allow a large private garden to the north.

Within the compelx geometry of the site the architects gave the upper and lower floor plan a different layout according to its position in relation to the boundary fence - for the more private ground orthogonal rooms orientated to the sun and the garden were created.

For the upper level the geometry shifts to increase privacy and capture views across the suburban landscape and to the ocean beyond.
