A residence for a growing family on a constricted terrace-type site, led to a design that made maximum use of the minimal space, extending the views through the house to the north-facing garden and trees of White City beyond. A clever manipulation of the side passage allowed the building to be widened on its middle (street) level without obstructing access to the rear garden below. This extension
to the side also allowed for the introduction of sunshine to the living areas of the house over the entire length of the kitchen living and dining storage areas. The manipulation of perception and views is further investigated between the main bedroom and its en-suite bathroom, where a narrow horizontal window allows for views of the exterior to penetrate the otherwise internalised bathroom space. The overall design explores a sculptural approach to the forms, creating sensual abstracted spaces while maintaining a completely functional home.
