The new building is essentially one of current times. State Government dual occupancy policy provided the owners the opportunity to develop an extremely difficult site and share the high infrastructure costs between two environmentally sensitive dwellings which, in response to development control applying to the site at the time, have a lesser impact than a large single house that could have been constructed instead. The pair of houses have a cost effective steel frame structure over three levels which relates interiors to the spectacular coastal landscape with minimal view loss. Floating curved roofs over living areas provide views into tree canopies and rocks and create the ambiance of a detached house in a private lanscape for each of the units. Black painted weatherboards and Custom Orb roofing relate to the original creosoted timber holiday houses built in the area. Blackbutt floorboards and decking and low maintenance materials such as stainless steel also create an informality appropriate for the seaside location. Rock, tree and foreshore oriented interiors are simple and uncluttered, reinforcing a beach house character. Inclinator access through an indigenous rainforest completes a unique holiday experience.
