The architect approached the design of his own apartment holistically, keeping both the interiors and architecture as part of the same process.
By day the elements of subtle "trompe l'oeil" feature (eg floor to ceiling mirrors) dismantle any sense of tightness - by night the controlled insertions of snowy and steely colour which fill the space make the charcoal walls less imposing.
Hecker wanted high levels of contrast in his home - to be theatrical in the process.
Surrounded by sculptural furniture in a gallery-like space , Hecker does "bachelor" with delightful discernment.
