In March 2008, the rear of the existing back bar building which also accommodated the kitchen and back of house areas adjacent to the beer garden was significantly damaged as a result of fire.
The reconstruction of the new building followed the existing building footprint and bulk and with the removal of the kitchen annex, a new kitchen was designed within the existing building resulting in a larger beer garden with the new back bar building opening out onto this open space. The back bar now has an address to Kiaora Lane with new entry steps and ramps.
Construction is of off-form concrete with an ultra-floor ceiling system, acoustic ceiling panels and timber framed windows and doors. The bar was re-positioned so that it now serves the beer garden as well as the interior of the back bar.
