PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY ERIC SIERINS

Even though this is a modestly sized house, its visual impact comes from the interior form, the almost cathederal -like vertical spaces and their interaction over split-floor levels.

The site slopes up from the water in a dead-end street and opposite a park.

To compensate for its narrowness, a vertical dimension is added over the living space, sweeping up over the split-level entrance and staircase towards the upper level. This level contains the master bedroom which also enjoys magnificent water views.

The high space is moulded into a curvilinear form following the spatial needs and proportions of such a high volume, flowing down to effect a low shading roof overhang to protect the Harbour-facing glass wall.

Giving privacy to the exposed sides of the site is a sympathetically curve-profiledscreen wall. This encloses a rear garden onto which the lower floor bedrooms face.

The house is built of split -face concrete block walls braced by a system of light steel columns supporting double curved steel beams. These create a silhouette of the house with stright steel purlins from the base of the corrugated metal roofing.
